Capex and manufacturing costs can be reduced 90% or more while avoiding the use of expensive, rigid sapphire wafers. LEDs made with iBeam technology will be manufactured with a roll-to-roll process, resulting in a flexible form factor that can provide uniform, low-cost, solid-state lighting. Cheap and efficient LEDs could be particularly impactful for providing access to affordable lighting in emerging markets.
