Over 200 million tons of steel slag are produced each year, which is either landfilled or used as a low-value aggregate. Meanwhile, cement production is responsible for about 7% of global carbon pollution.
TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION
Cocoon’s technology repurposes slag from electric arc furnaces, which has previously not been ideal for use in concrete. Their modular units integrate into slag pits to enable slag to be converted into a low-carbon SCM in an energy-efficient chemical and mechanical process.
